Construction

Industries

The construction sector in Mexico has experienced a strong rebound in recent years. In 2023, the industry expanded by 15.6% in real terms, its highest growth rate in decades, largely driven by major public infrastructure works and nearshoring-related projects.

In 2024, growth has moderated significantly as public investment decelerates and the economic environment becomes more uncertain. Recent estimates suggest that construction output expanded at a low single-digit rate—around 4% for the year as a whole, with clear signs of a slowdown in the second half of the year and weaker performance in civil engineering works compared with building activity. Even in this more cautious scenario, the Mexican construction market remains sizable: its value is estimated at around USD 175.9 billion, positioning it among the top 15 construction markets worldwide.

Despite cyclical headwinds, the sector continues to attract substantial public and private investment, particularly in logistics, industrial parks, transportation infrastructure, energy projects, housing, and mixed-use developments. Key cross-cutting trends include sustainable and energy-efficient buildings, modular and prefabricated solutions, and the integration of digital tools (BIM, project management platforms, and data analytics) throughout the project lifecycle.
