The Isthmus of Tehuantepec Corridor: Mexico’s New Global Logistics Hub

The Isthmus of Tehuantepec Corridor: Mexico’s New Global Logistics Hub

The Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec is an ambitious project poised to transform logistics and trade across Mexico. This corridor, with a railway network connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, aims to streamline the country’s economic development. Featuring three main railway lines, it reduces transportation times between the oceans and positions itself as a viable alternative to the Panama Canal.

The most advanced section of the corridor connects the ports of Salina Cruz (Oaxaca) and Coatzacoalcos (Veracruz), covering 227 kilometers of rehabilitated tracks ready to handle both freight and passenger transportation. Once fully operational, the train is expected to move up to 1.4 million containers annually, providing a fast and efficient overland solution between the two oceans. As the project progresses, Mexico will strengthen its role in global supply chains, benefiting both international trade and local economies.
